Dear friends,
April is one of the busiest months I have had. EVER! On April 6, I defended my Ph. D. dissertation which was about Down syndrome and augmentative and alternative communication for preschool children. I am humbled to have provided the research community with qualitative data to support the use of a device to help young children with down syndrome communicate using a device. I appreciate the opportunity to also share what amazing things are happening at our school with others in this field. ELB was greatly complemented during this study.
Whole Hog 2026 was also something keeping us busy in the month of April! This event takes about 9 months to plan and about 8 weeks to get all the details worked out, and 12 hour days leading up to the event. We are so grateful to the staff at ELB, the numerous UTEP volunteers from different programs, the DSC who helped at the event, and the family members that lent an extra hand as well.
We have preliminary numbers and š„š„š„ roll š„š„š„ we have $113,000 for next yearās scholarship fund!!! All raised through the generous participants and sponsors of the 2026 Whole Hog! We also received a special gift from Mr. Enrique Escobar for a specialized Amtryke for our school and we raised half the funds to purchase a second one with the help of Sun City Chapter of National AMBUCS Inc. filling in the rest!!
